Sustainability through innovation
As supplies of fossil fuels diminish while the price and demand for energy continues to rise, there is an increasing need for alternative or renewable energy sources.
Elsmore believes that renewable energy technologies are the future and consider them a key benefit when purchasing a new property. We have wide ranging knowledge and experience in various types of renewable energy sources.
Solar Thermal:
The sun’s energy is used to heat a liquid solution within a system of pipe-work, usually contained in efficient roof mounted panels. This pipe-work passes through a water cylinder discharging its heat and heating the domestic water.
Solar Photovoltaic Cells:
These comprise two layers of semi-conducting silicon cells. Photons are absorbed from sunlight in one layer, releasing electrons in the process. These are attracted to the other layer of cells with the resulting flow of electrons creating DC power. An inverter transforms this into AC electricity which can then be used in the home.
Ground Source Heat Pumps:
In the same way that a domestic fridge uses refrigerant to extract heat from inside to keep food cold, a ground source heat pump extracts heat from the ground via a system of pipe-work, boosts it, and uses it to heat the home and domestic hot water supply.
Air to Water Source Heat Pumps:
These work in much the same way as a ground source heat pump, instead using an external fan unit to extract warmth from the air. This heat is boosted by the heat pump and used to heat water both within the heating and hot water systems.
Wind Turbines:
Turbine blades capture kinetic energy from the wind and start moving. These spin a shaft leading to a generator which turns the rotational energy into electricity. In the right situation, small scale systems can contribute electricity for use in the home.
Currently the Government drive is to reduce power usage through the addition of renewables within new homes. At Elsmore we believe it is equally important to ensure both carbon emissions and running costs are reduced when using renewable energy systems and are constantly looking at ways of achieving this goal for our customers.
Elsmore is recognised by Waverley Borough Council as a source of expertise for our Sustainability Reports. These reports are now a requirement of every new planning application and must detail how at least 10% of all site energy will be derived from renewable sources.
