Elsmore wins a clutch of awards

Strutt & Parker is proud to announce that local property development company Elsmore Construction was the recipient of ‘The best of the best’ Civic Design Award, presented by the Godalming Trust at their AGM.

The ‘Best of the Best’ Richard Elsmore, partner at Elsmore Construction, was delighted to receive the award on behalf of the company for the conversion of Stockman Barns, Godalming – a group of derelict farm buildings converted into four individual dwellings.

Chairman of The Godalming Trust, Ron Musk and the judging panel, proposed Stockman Barns as a winning project “for conserving and enhancing the character of these previously derelict buildings as a compact group of new individual homes”. The judging panel unhesitatingly decided to confer the Godalming Trust ‘Best of the Best’ Award. Elsmore Construction and architect Opus Design were commended for their achievements in “conserving the vernacular buildings, giving them new life and improving the rural prospect by removing unsightly sheds and Dutch barns. Residential use was achieved without significant rebuilding”.

Richard was particularly thrilled to receive the ‘Best of the Best’ Award since this category is not necessarily awarded biannually and is reserved for ‘truly outstanding projects’.

The awards were presented by the Mayor of Godalming, Councillor Dr John Blowers, attended by the Mayoress Mrs Mary Blowers.

“Great design and the use of original materials wherever possible have made this a house that you can really enjoy living in. The stunning open plan kitchen and sitting room always gets great compliments from friends and visitors.”
Clare Smart, Stockman Barns owner
